We went to this restaurant for lunch this week; it is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. We go to Crete regularly and the authenticity in Archipelagos is superb, the food fantastic and the atmosphere very Greek. We received fast and incredibly friendly service and we can’t wait to go back. A little bit of Greece here in England - Lynda
My personal favourite restaurant in the entirety of Brighton and Hove. The service is wonderful and friendly from the beginning. From someone who's worked in hospitality a while I truly could appreciate how much a lot of us could learn from this fine establishment. The arrangement of seating is both intimate yet comfortable. The sort of place you can go on a date to or just for a meal to share with friends and family (I have done all three). Incredible food and wine selection from start to finish at every point on the menu. All the while you're made to feel at home and like you never left. My sort of restaurant through and through. Love me some Archipelagos! Lastly thanks to Theo and the staff, you make every visit a reason to return and truly enjoyable. Ps I recommend you share the tapas type or starter platters; you'll want to try everything! - Jonathan
Having spent many happy holidays in Greece it was a joy to find such an authentic taverna in our own home town. Warmly welcomed by the owner, Theo, we settled at our table and soaked up the atmosphere. This time around we had a meal made up of starters to try the food out and were delighted by the generous sizes of the plates and the attention to detail. Tzatziki is always a good test and it came up to the mark nicely, as did splendid garlic mushrooms, fried courgettes, prawns and mussels, with a large basket of pita breads and a great bottle of Makedonikos white wine. With such a great range on the menu we're going to be regular visitors here! - Dave & Sue Burnham
"AMAZING! My family love this restaurant. We love it because we get personal service from the owner. The food is reasonably priced and big portions! Go try it!" - Michelle
"Delicious food and a warm welcome. I went for the first time just after my 2 week holiday in Ayia Napa and have taken my friends who were visiting me there too. I am working my way through the menu... the calamares, kleftiko & sea bass, totally sublime... the ouzo is rather good ;-)" Issuzcat
"Last night was our first visit, loved it. Food was fantastic, but, don't eat for a day before you go, massife portions and so much value for the money. Our only complaint was that the plates were cold so the rice when placed on the plate and the sauce went cold very quickly. Staff are ace and the owner is there to take up any issues but he ensures you're well looked after. ********* stars." - Dave
"The best Greek restaurant, we have ever been to. Archipelagos is our favourite restaurant at the moment. Amazing food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. See you again, tonight. :)" - Edit & Adrian
"I've eaten at this restuarant a few times, and everytime the welcome and food are on a par with what you'd get in Greece. The food is delicious with some really imaginative combinations ( Beetroot feta garlic sald is a must ) and the portions are really substantial! A lovely place to eat and great value for money. I will visit again and again." Emma
"Have eaten here twice and I agree it seems very authentic, with good helpings and cheerful friendly owner. I keep recommending it to friends. Nuff sed." - Gareth
"First time visit to the Archipelagos and what a surprise. The atmosphere is so authentic that you can actually imagine you are eating at a taverna on a Greek island. The food is amazing, and plenty of it. The service is outstanding, and not rushed at all. I had Mydopilafo (Greek paella) for starters and it was superb. I followed that with Kleftico. The lamb was so succulent and there was plenty of it (enough for 2!!!). We decided on Makedonikos wine which was delicious. With baklava and coffee to finish it was a perfect evening. Would highly reccommend this restaurant it's first class. (16th March 2012)"
"Love this restaurant, great friendly atmosphere and the Mousakka and greek salad, which I always have, along with other dishes, is delicious! Can't wait to return when next in Brighton."
"A reasonably priced little gem on Western road. Went there as an alternative to the Sunday roast and was delighted with my find. Food was very authentic and tasty with exceptional service. One for the future." - Stuart
"Travelled many time to this restaurant from our home in East Grinstead . Having previously lived in Cyprus we love the food and the people. We ALWAYS are made to feel welcome and love that the staff & owner (sorry I don't know his name) have time to chat with you. The food & atmosphere makes us think that we are back in Cyprus.
Looking forward to booking for next weekend!" - Michelle
"Had dinner on Saturday night with my two friends. The food was utterly amazing, just like being back in Greece. My lamb kleftiko was melt in the mouth perfection and my friend's swordfish and souvlaki were delicious.I wish I could eat here every weekend, but I live in Northern Ireland!! I would highly recommend and the staff were fantastic too, very welcoming. Thank you so much !"
"I'm so glad this restaurant has finally got a website! It is one of our favourite restaurants we have ever been to and we have been known to travel from our home in Woking especially to go and eat here, it's that good! Theo is so attentive and all the staff and smiley - nothing is too much trouble but the food! the food is amazing; absolutely delicious, plentiful (bring a big appetite!), traditional and not pricey. Well worth the money. You will most definitely not be disappointed, but do try and book as it is extremely popular!" Lucy & Matthew Oliver, Woking, Surrey
"Visited on Sun 18th July with 2 friends, was really good food, exceptional value, manager was really attentive without being OTT, would highly recommend will be visiting again in a few weeks, thanks for great night." - Louise
"I highly recommend this restaurant for Greek Meze, we had a delicious meal and I were very impressed! My mum finally has some competition with her amazing cooking; and she is Greek too!" Anon
"Me and my girlfriend went there yesterday for our 2nd year annivary meal, the weather on the night was bitter cold and raining, but when we got in there the atmosphere was really friendly and warm.
The food was AMAZING! my girlfriend had the Sea Bass and i had the swordfish, the manager brought our food out and then took the sea bas out on a seperate plate and de-headed,finned and de-boned it right there in front of us it was some really good silver service and somthing you dont see too often.
The waitress and manager were very welcoming and friendly nice and smiley and made us feel really welcome. " - Dan M
"Excellent food and atmosphere. I would highly recommend it !!" - Anon
"i dined with my girlfriend at the Archipelagos restaurant last night and it was an aboslutely great experience. lovely Greek food, great customer service, nice atmosphere with traditional Greek music. i wholeheartedly recommend it to everybody." - James
"Thanks to Theo and his staff, I had a great birthday meal. There were 17 of us and he created a well priced and utterly delicious Mezze menu and even gifted some wine. A wonderful host and a fantastic atmosphere. We'll be back." - Anon
"The Manager was the loveliest friendliest man EVER. We had the most fantastic meal and even got a coffee on the house before we went out. I recommend the meat Mezze if you're not sure what you'd like.
"Really delicious food, well priced and amazing staff. Would drive back down from London just for dinner!!!" - Charley
"We went to Archipelagos for dinner on the first night of my friend's hen do and had such a great time. The manager came and sat with us to have a shot of ouzo (on the house) before we had even ordered and made us feel so welcome the entire time. The restaurant is small and cosy, and most definitely authentically greek! The food was lovely and a very reasonable price.
All in all I couldn't really fault our meal, and will definitely be heading there next time we're in Brighton!" - Kate
"We strongly recommend this restaurant, which used to be called Symposio and is now under new management since last year. We enjoyed the place in its previous incarnation and on seeing the refurbishment underway had that usual sinking feeling... Unwarrented as it turned out. The new owner, Theo, is an experienced restauranteur who has maintained the key elements of the old menu and sensibly added new dishes to broaden the place's appeal (essential for survival these days). The food is delicious, well priced and enthusiastically presented. Try one of the Greek wines for a change: a bit pricey and not to everyone's taste, but we love them.
As a benchmark, just around the corner is Estia, a more 'upmarket' Greek restaurant. We went there twice, and the second time it was abysmal in every way. We've been to Archepelagos many, many times, for lunch and for dinner, and have never had cause for complaint.
Support your local Greek taverna, and try Archipelagos!" - Jon
